The international scientific conference "Rene Lafon – 110"


The international scientific conference "Rene Lafon – 110" was held at Georgian National Museum, Tbilisi, on 17-18 December, 2009. The conference was devoted to the 110th anniversary of Rene Lafon's birth – a French linguist, specialist in the Basque language and Caucasian studies, kartvelologist, Corresponding Member of French Academy of Inscriptions and Belles-Lettres, Member of Bilbao Academy, Professor of University of Bordeaux, Honorary Doctor of Tbilisi State University.

34 papers were submitted to the conference from Georgia, Daghestan, Chechnia, Ingushetia, Kabardino-Balkaria. The conference materials will be published early in 2010.

Foreign guests saw see the sights of Tbilisi, visited Sh.Amiranashvili Georgian Art Museum, "Museum In the Open", Mtatsminda Pantheon, made a tour of Mtskheta – the ancient capital of Georgia, saw a play at A.Griboyedov Tbilisi Russian Theatre. On 19 December, the specialists in Caucasian studies discussed the plans for further collaboration at the "Fund of Caucasus". The same day, the guests attended at the meeting with a famous Georgian singer Vakhtang Kikabidze at the "Fund of Caucasus".
